On 30 April 2021, Apple released the Airtag. This new device is a tracking device that helps you find your personal items if they get lost. To find your items, Apple uses the Bluetooth signal from Apple devices and anonymously passes it to the “Find My” network. On this application you can then find your lost items.

At present, there is a lot of chaos due to staff shortages, especially in Western European airports. Due to this lack of staff, unfortunately many human errors happen every day where passengers’ luggage is sent to the wrong flight or where the capacity of the staff is more than reached and they cannot deal with all the baggages. Airports like Heathrow Airport have even asked the airlines to stop selling summer tickets due to the lack of staff and the chaos that reigns at the airport.

For my last holidays, I ordered Apple Airtags which I put in every piece of baggage I have with me, be it in the check-in baggage or backpack I take on the plane. I then renamed each airtag in the Find-My app to the corresponding luggage, such as: “Gilles’ backpack” and “Gilles’ baggage”. When I checked in at the airport, I could track exactly where my luggage was as long as it was near a Bluetooth-enabled Apple device that anonymously transmitted the signals to my Find My app, whether it was the airport staff or other passengers waiting for their flight. It doesn’t matter who is near the luggage, as long as it is an Apple Bluetooth device, signals are automatically sent anonymously to the Find My network.

My baggages at the Luxembourg Airport

When we were on the plane, we could see exactly that our baggages were on our plane. Such airtags, which only cost a small amount of money, can be extremely helpful and are not the least effort to install. Friends of mine have had their luggage sent to the wrong plane and the ground staff at the airport didn’t know where their luggage was. Thanks to the Apple Airtags they put in each piece of luggage before they travelled, they were able to find out where their luggage went after a few hours and contact the airport of arrival directly to let them know that there baggage is at their airport.
I can only recommend Apple Airtags to anyone who has a journey in the future. These airtags can be used for many different things. Discover them yourself and play around :-)
